Fundraising is a constant challenge for us, no more so than this year as the safety surface in the rear playground is nearing the end of its useful life.

Why is this surface important?
Made using recycled tyres and sports shoes it is an environmentally friendly choice of playground surface.

The children have enjoyed using the current playground surface for the last ten years and we would like them to continue to do so for the next ten years. This type of surface allows the children to have the freedom to explore running, skipping, jumping and climbing in a safe environment.

Safety is paramount and our primary consideration when choosing this type of impact-absorbing surface in our playground.  This type of rubberised surface boats that ‘within a distance of less than its own thickness, the protective surface will slow the head of a falling child down to zero without ever exceeding a critical peak rate of deceleration. The surface must deform progressively so that the child's head is brought to rest safely.’

Although brain injuries are the main concern, the cushioning effect of the resilient material also reduces risk of injuries to backs, shoulders, arms and legs
