There has been a Nursery on the corner of Fordwych Road and Mill Lane in West Hampstead since 1946. Lynne Clark, who now co owns and runs the Nursery with her daughter Laura, has been at Fordwych since 1976.

Fordwych is a small Nursery, with places for 27 children. We aim to provide affordable early years education and care. Our children are happy, confident, independent children who are very well prepared for primary school.

OFSTED inspects the Nursery regularly and its very favourable reports are available from the Nursery, or via the Internet.

The Principals, Lynne and Laura Clark are at the Nursery every day. They are responsible for the management of the Nursery and are always happy to talk to parents and carers. You can speak to them by telephone at the Nursery on 020 8208 2591 (between 8.15am and 8.45am) or arrange a personal meeting.

We greatly value the contribution parents and carers make to the Nursery, working with us for the benefit of the children. On a practical level, we need materials like cardboard boxes and paper (please start collecting them!) and we always welcome parents and carers coming in to Nursery to tell a story or lead a creative or musical activity. Making suggestions and comments about the Nursery and giving information to staff is also very useful to us.

You can help your child by listening to them on the way home from Nursery and by encouraging them to talk about their time here; about the teachers and children they have been playing with and also by reading books and stories together whenever possible.

Working parents who may not come to the Nursery every day can keep in touch with their child’s activities through a Home/Nursery book. Please ask Lynne or Laura if you would like to set up this system.

Fundraising is a constant challenge and we depend on the support and inspiration of our parents to raise funds to buy new equipment for the Nursery and pay for extra training for our staff. We also raise money at times for children who are not as fortunate as those at Fordwych.
